Fan Yi was a woman after the May 4th Movement. She pursued freedom and love, but was fragile and lonely. She married Zhou Puyuan and had an affair with her son Zhou Ping. Zhou Ping secretly interacted with the maid Sifeng, causing Sifeng to become pregnant. Sifeng's mother Lu went to the Zhou family and discovered that Zhou Puyuan was the eldest son of the Zhou family who had abandoned her, and Zhou Ping was her biological son. Therefore, a heart-wrenching tragedy broke out in the rain of lightning and thunder, eventually causing the characters in the play to be destroyed. Only Lu Dahai, a worker representing the new forces, walked on his own path. The tragedy of the whole play is based on incest, but it implies class consciousness and social roots.
