They were attacked by Kuomintang spies and shot to death. Yang Xingfo, a native of Yushan, Jiangxi Province. He studied at Harvard University in the United States in his early years. In 1911, he joined the Alliance and participated in the Revolution of 1911. In 1924, he served as Secretary to Sun Yat-sen. In 1928, he served as Director General of the Academia Sinica. In 1932, he joined the "Chinese Civil Rights Protection League" with Soong Ching Ling, Lu Xun, Cai He was assassinated after several speeches denouncing the Kuomintang government for trampling on civil rights, suppressing progressives, and rescuing Communists and democrats. Around this time, Soong Ching Ling, Lu Xun, and Cai Yuanpei all received assassination warnings. On the same day, Cai Yuanpei called Lin Sen and Wang Jingwei to arrest the murderer.
