March 18, 1871 The Paris Commune Revolution broke out
On this day, 154 years ago, on March 18, 1871 (January 28, 1871), the Paris Commune Revolution broke out. The Paris Commune was the revolutionary government of the workers established by the French proletariat in 1871 and the first proletarian regime in human history. In 1870, France launched the Franco-Prussian War for European hegemony, which resulted in a disastrous defeat of the French army. In September, the Paris Revolution overthrew the Second Empire, the Third Republic was proclaimed, and the bourgeois defense government was established. At that time, the Prussian army occupied more than one-third of France's territory, and the Prussian army was on the verge of Paris. The Parisian workers rose up to fight. The workers-dominated National Guard grew to about 300,000 in three weeks and purchased hundreds of cannons. But the defense government feared the workers' armed forces more than the Prussian army. After suppressing two armed uprisings of the Parisian people, it signed an armistice with Prussia. In February 1871, the traitor Thiers formed a new government, which continued its policy of betraying the interests of the nation and opposing the proletariat. In the early hours of March 18, the Thiers government sent troops to attack the artillery field on the heights of Montmartre in an attempt to disarm the workers. The Parisian workers, led by the Central Committee of the National Guard, routed the government forces, staged an armed uprising, and occupied the city government of Paris. The Thiers government fled to Versailles. The Paris Commune Revolution was victorious, and the Central Committee of the National Guard became a de facto provisional revolutionary government. But instead of riding on the victory and marching to Versailles, the Central Committee was busy with the elections of the Commune, giving the reactionaries a respite, and made a fatal mistake. On March 28, the newly elected Commune commissioner, Lanvière, solemnly declared: "In the name of the people, I declare the Commune established!" The first proletarian regime in human history was born. In the two months following the establishment of the Paris Commune, many important measures of far-reaching impact were implemented: the Council of Commune was declared the sole power to replace the old government, and 10 new committees were created to replace the ministries of the previous government; conscription and the standing army were abolished, and the workers-dominated National Guard was declared the only armed force; a democratic system combining democratic elections with mass supervision was implemented; high wages were abolished, and part-time pay was not part-time. The Commune also issued a series of decrees to protect labor. These measures provided valuable experience for the construction of proletarian power and enriched and developed the theory of scientific socialism. Just as Paris was rejoicing in the triumph of the uprising, the Thiers government regrouped its armed forces and colluded with the Prussian army to invade the city of Paris on May 21. After a week of fierce street fighting, the soldiers of the Paris Commune ran out of ammunition in the early morning of May 28, and the last 147 members were massacred by the reactionary army under the wall in the northeast corner of the Abbot Lachaise Cemetery. The wall of the Abbot Lachaise Cemetery was later known as the "Wall of the Fighters of the Paris Commune", which is an eternal historical witness to the spirit of the Paris Commune. Although the Paris Commune failed, the historical achievements of the Commune cannot be forgotten. Marx once said: "The workers' Paris and its Commune will always be admired as the glorious precursors of the new society. Its heroes have been forever remembered in the great hearts of the working class." In May 1871 (the tenth year of Tongzhi in the Qing Dynasty), the coffins of the victims of the Paris Commune were massacred by government forces
