On April 27, 2001 (April 5, 2001 in the lunar calendar), the China International Rescue Team was born. On May 29, 2006, the China International Rescue Team members went to the earthquake-stricken areas in Indonesia. The China International Rescue Team was established on April 27, 2001. It was jointly established by the China Earthquake Administration, an engineering unit of the People's Liberation Army and the General Hospital of the Armed Police, with 222 members. The China International Rescue Team is equipped with modern life detection, demolition and medical rescue equipment. It has more than 23,400 pieces (sets) of equipment in 8 categories of 360 kinds, more than 20 search dogs, and more than 20 vehicles. It has reached the standard of the United Nations heavy rescue team. It is a professional earthquake disaster search and rescue force with "one specialization and multi-ability, combination of professional and professional, combination of military and civilian, and combination of peace and war". Since its establishment several years ago, the rescue team has participated in five emergency rescue operations in China, including the Bachu-Jiashi earthquake in Xinjiang on February 24, 2003, the Zhaosu earthquake in Xinjiang on December 1, 2003, and the Algerian earthquake on May 22, 2003, the Bam earthquake in Iran on December 26, 2003, and the Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami on December 26, 2004. During the earthquake rescue in Algeria, the China International Rescue Team successfully searched for a 12-year-old surviving child and was one of two teams of 38 international rescue teams that successfully searched for survivors. During the Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami relief operation at the end of 2004, the Chinese International Rescue Team dispatched 70 people to Indonesia in two batches, especially the severely affected Banda Aceh to carry out international humanitarian relief. It lasted nearly 30 days and treated more than 10,000 wounded. It has become an important local rescue force and has been widely praised by local victims. It has been fully recognized by the international community and has made positive contributions to the country's overall diplomacy.
