On this day, 123 years ago, January 13, 1902 (December 4, 1901 in the lunar calendar), Soviet politician and Soviet Prime Minister Malinkov was born. Georgi Maximilenovich Malinkov (January 13, 1902-January 14, 1988) was a Soviet politician and leader of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. He served as Prime Minister of the Soviet Union from March 1953 to February 1955 after Stalin's death. Malinkov served as a political and combat officer of the Red Army in 1919, joined the Communist Party of the Soviet Union in 1920, and later became Stalin's confidant; In the second half of the 1930s, Malinkov and Beria jointly carried out a general purge of the Soviet party, government and army, but later Malinkov and Beria became political opponents. In 1946, Malinkov became a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union and became the core figure in Stalin's decision-making after Zhdanov stepped down. After Stalin's death in 1953, Malinkov became Prime Minister of the Soviet Union and once served as General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, becoming the supreme leader of the Soviet Union; but Malinkov, who intended to form collective leadership, gave way to Khrushchev. Malinkov also eliminated Beria at this time, who was inconsistent with his policies. During his two years as prime minister, Malinkov once stated to the outside world that "nuclear weapons will lead to the destruction of the world" and opposed the continued manufacture of nuclear weapons and exploring ways of reconciliation with the United States; but such actions have triggered a backlash from hardliners within the party. In February 1955, Malinkov resigned, but remained in the Politburo; in 1956, under the joint efforts of Molotov, Bulganin and others, Malinkov was expelled from the Politburo. Malinkov was expelled from the Communist Party of the Soviet Union in 1961. Later, he was responsible for building a hydropower plant in Kazakhstan and died on January 14, 1988.
