Ronald Wilson Reagan

On February 26, 1911, Ronald Wilson Reagan was born in Tampico, Illinois.

Reagan was the oldest president in the United States and one of the more conservative presidents. His family is not rich. He completed college studies part-time work and study. He has served as a water lifeguard, an amateur swimming coach, etc. He is eloquent, loves sports and drama, and was a popular figure in college.

He graduated from Eureka College in Illinois in 1932 and worked as a sports announcer in radio shortly after college.

In 1933, he was admitted to WOC Radio Station in Davinbet, Iowa, and then went to work for Radio WHO in Des Moines. In May 1937, he entered Hollywood as a movie photographer and acted in more than 50 films, becoming a "second-rate star" in Hollywood.

In April 1942, he enlisted in the Army Air Force and served in the First Film Team.

In the mid-1960s, with the strong support of California's powerful groups, he abandoned his political career and served as governor of California for eight years. He officially joined the Republican Party in 1962 and lost twice in the presidential election in 1968 and 1976.

In 1980, he was elected as the Republican presidential candidate. In the same year, he defeated Carter and became the 40th president of the United States (served from January 20, 1981 to January 20, 1989).

He took office as president in January 1981 and expired in January 1989. In 1994, he announced to the whole country that he had Alzheimer's disease.

In the 1930s, Reagan was a Democrat who supported Roosevelt's "New Deal". Later, his political thinking gradually changed. In 1947, he gave anti-communist testimony to the House Committee on Un-American Activities. In 1962, he officially switched to the Republican Party and became a representative of Republican conservatives.

His creed is: "please the business community, attack the big government." After Reagan entered the White House, he made a major adjustment in domestic and foreign policies. Internally, he changed the set of economic policies that the US government had followed the "New Deal" for many years and pursued "Reaganomics", which obviously changed the long-term "stagflation" situation of the US economy. Externally, he was known for being tough on the Soviet Union, vigorously expanding its military, taking advantage of US technology, and proposing an ambitious "Star Wars" plan in order to "refresh the spirit and suppress the opponent." He began to reverse some of the unfavorable trends in the balance of power during the Carter era, and negotiated with the Soviet Union from a position of strength. Reagan used to be one of the well-known pro-Taiwan figures in the United States, but after he took office, he had to face the reality and proceed from the global strategic interests of the United States, and attach importance to and develop relations with China. In terms of political style, he was conservative in political thought, but he had some flexibility. He adopted more moderate and conservative Republican policy proposals, and took into account the interests of other factions of the two parties. He only focused on big things and relied on think tanks.

After his term expired in 1989, he returned to California and lived a rich retirement.
