On this day, 70 years ago, on February 16, 1955 (January 24, 1955 in the lunar calendar), the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China decided on the united front work policy. On February 16, 1955, the United Front Work Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China held the fifth National United Front Work Conference in accordance with the instructions of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. The meeting focused on discussing the guidelines for united front work from 1956 to 1962 and adopted corresponding resolutions. The party's task is to continue to consolidate and expand the people's democratic united front, unite all possible forces, and strive for our common goals. The resolution calls for education to be regarded as a central task in the work of the united front, to help the majority of bourgeois elements, democrats and senior intellectuals carry out political and ideological transformation, and to gradually adapt them to the changed and changing political and social status. Under the new historical conditions, we must give full play to the role of people's organizations such as the People's Political Consultative Conference, democratic parties, and federations of industry and commerce.
