On this day, 27 years ago, March 10, 1998 (February 12, 1998 in the lunar calendar), Suharto was re-elected President of Indonesia. On March 10, 1998, the Indonesian People's Consultative Assembly unanimously elected Soharto as the next president. The next day, Suharto was officially sworn in as Indonesian President for a five-year term. This is his seventh consecutive term as president. Suharto is 77 years old. In March 1966, he served as Indonesian Vice President and Army Commander. In March 1967, Suharto seized power from Sukarno and became acting president. He became president in 1968. In May 1998, Suharto announced his resignation due to riots in Indonesia.
