Cai E, who became governor after the Yunnan Uprising, was inspired by the Wuchang Uprising. On October 30, 1911, Cai E and others launched an uprising in Kunming. It was originally planned to enter the city to launch an attack at 12:00 p.m., but when the 73rd bullet was fired, an officer noticed that an uprising platoon leader shot and killed him, and the battle started early. Li Genyuan and Li Hongxiang gathered their troops and built a human ladder to climb the city wall into the city. After the city gate was opened, the rebels rushed in, attacked the Arsenal Factory and other places, and attacked the Ordnance Bureau and Wuhua Mountain. Cai E and Luo Peijin led 74 bids into the city to attack the Governor's Office and assisted the Ordnance Bureau with another unit. On the morning of the 31st, the rebels occupied the Ordnance Bureau and the Supervision Office. Zhong Lintong, the governor of 19 towns, was killed and Governor Li Jingxi was captured. Cai E and Li Genyuan remembered Li Jiuyi and sent Sichuan capital to escort them out of the country.
