Breaking-News >> TodayHistory On April 23, 1960, our country's first 10,000-ton ship was launched
On this day, 65 years ago, on April 23, 1960 (March 28, 1960, the lunar calendar), my country's first 10,000-ton ship was launched. The first 10,000-ton ocean cargo ship designed and built by my country-the "Dongfeng" was launched at Shanghai Jiangnan Shipyard on April 23, 1960. Newspapers at the time described the incident as follows: The 10,000-ton ocean-going cargo ship "Dongfeng" only took 88 days from commissioning to launch, 11 days earlier than originally planned, of which only 49 days were needed for the sledge cycle. In 1957, the "Zephyr" ocean-going cargo ship with a load of 1,500 tons built by Kawasaki Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. of Japan took four months and nine days from commissioning to launch. The "Dongfeng" has a cargo capacity of 10,000 tons and a displacement of more than 16,000 tons. It has a speed of 17 miles per hour and a range of 12,000 miles. After its completion, this cargo ship seemed to have anchored from Shanghai, along the Pacific Ocean, passing through the Indian Ocean, and Atlantic Ocean. Without adding fuel or drinks halfway, it can go directly to Leningrad, the Soviet Union. The construction of such a modern giant ship took only forty-nine days for the slipway cycle, which was the result of the technological revolution caused by the factory's workers and masses. As soon as the entire factory entered the 1960s, they became more ambitious and ambitious. They heroically proposed that the east wind is blowing harder and harder, and shipbuilding should be built better and faster. The whole factory set off a vigorous climax of technological revolution. From the time of commissioning to launch, 10,000-ton ocean-going cargo ships have achieved more than 300 major technological innovation projects, improved designs and improved processes, and adopted a variety of new processes and technologies to enable the berth. The cycle has been shortened repeatedly. The pass rate of welds on the main structures of the ship reached more than 98%, and the cost of hull construction was reduced by 5.5%. During the construction process, the workers carried forward the communist style of daring to think and do, and many things that were originally thought "impossible" were accomplished. When the cargo ship began to be built, all the materials and equipment on board could be manufactured domestically. There was a unique precision instrument-the gyrocompass that could not be manufactured at that time. After the electrical workshop workers learned about this, they firmly stated that the "Dongfeng" must use domestic gyrocompass. Worker Li Wenmin, engineer Ma Tengtu and others overcame many difficulties and finally built my country's first gyrocompass. Old worker Wu Yuqi, long before the 10,000-ton ship was launched, thought of how to stop carrying out heavy manual labor when launching. He thought hard day and night, and finally created the "silent launching" moving operation method. This factory built the first 5,000-ton seagoing vessel-"Heping 28" in 1958, and the sledge cycle only took 70 days; in 1959, the second 5,000-ton seagoing vessel "Heping 18" was built, and the sledge cycle was shortened to 35 days. Although the cargo capacity of the 10,000-ton giant ship this time was twice as large, the sledge cycle only took forty-nine days.
