27 years ago today, on April 17, 1998 (March 21, 1998 in the lunar calendar), scientists in our country confirmed that the Yarlung Zangbo River Grand Canyon is the deepest in the world. On April 17, 1998, scientists in our country confirmed for the first time that the Yarlung Zangbo River Grand Canyon with a deepest depth of 5,382 meters is the valley on the earth. From then on, the 3200-deep Corca Grand Canyon in Peru, which used to be called the world's largest canyon, will take a back seat. This major achievement was unanimously launched by Yang Yichou, a geographer at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Gao Dengyi, an atmospheric physicist, and a botanist, Li Bo, before his birthday, and was endorsed and supported by Professor Liu Dongsheng, President of the International Federation of Quaternary Research and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. According to the introduction, the researchers have made many expeditions to the Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon, and have recognized the authoritative position in the research depth of geology, geomorphology, vegetation and water and gas flux here. To confirm that the Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon is an unparalleled grand canyon in the world, the researchers used one to 50,000 topographic maps and aerial surveys as the basis to make a standard section at the canyon of the 7782-meter Nangkabawa Peak and the 7234-meter Jialabai Peak, and then made two comparative sections across the Grand Canyon. The calculation results show that the average depth of the Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon, which cuts through the Himalayas, is more than 5,000 meters, and the deepest place is 5,382 meters. The narrowest part of the bottom of the Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon is only 74 meters, generally between 80 and 200 meters wide, and the total length is 370 kilometers. It is also the highest canyon in the world. Yang Yichou, a researcher who has traveled most of the canyon, said that due to the abnormal turbulence of the river in some areas, close to the 300-meter-high rock cliffs galloping down, so far, no one has hiked through the Brahmaputra Grand Canyon. The researchers further pointed out that the existence of this grand canyon is equivalent to providing a large channel for the northward movement of warm and humid water in India, so that the commonly regarded subtropical northern limit extends northward here by about 9 degrees. Therefore, the tropical rainforest in the Grand Canyon is densely covered, and it is lush and picturesque everywhere. The waterfalls are purely like milk-faced mountain springs, and the strange section of Doxunla Pass is formed by Jade Grass
