101 years ago today, on May 5, 1924 (April 2, 1924 in the lunar calendar), Whampoa Military Academy officially opened. The school emblem embodying the spirit of Huangpu is the abbreviation of Huangpu Military Academy. It is located on Changzhou Island in Huangpu District, Guangzhou City, the largest city in southern my country. It was founded in May 1924 by Sun Yat-sen personally with the help of the Communist Party of China and the Socialist Soviet Union. It was a product of the first cooperation between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party. Before the "April 12" counter-revolutionary coup in 1927, it was a new type of revolutionary military school. After the failure of the Revolution of 1911, Sun Yat-sen continued to adhere to the revolutionary stance and fought many struggles, but could not find the right path. He always fantasized about uniting one group of warlords against another group of warlords in an attempt to win from military speculation. Contrary to his wishes, all he got was painful failure again and again. Sun Yat-sen began to realize that the reason why China's revolution could not succeed was that there was no real revolutionary armed force and no foundation for the people. Warlords are unreliable and cannot rely on the support of this or that warlord to carry out revolution. In his depression and wandering, Sun Yat-sen readily accepted the suggestions of representatives of the Communist International and the Communists of China, and was determined to establish a military academy and establish a revolutionary army. In January 1924, the first National Congress of the Kuomintang was held. After the official establishment of the cooperation between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party, Sun Yat-sen actively established the establishment of an Army Officer Academy and decided to use the original sites of the Guangdong Army School and Naval School on Huangpu Island as military school buildings. On May 5, 1924, Whampoa Military Academy officially opened. Sun Yat-sen personally served as premier of the military academy, Liao Zhongkai as party representative, and Chiang Kai-shek as principal. In terms of organizational structure, Whampoa Military Academy has established a party representative system and a political work system; in terms of training goals, the military academy stipulates that officers who are skilled in commanding military affairs and good at doing political work must be trained; in terms of educational content, Whampoa Military Academy offers political courses and implements the principle of equal emphasis on political courses and military courses. Later, the party representative system and political work system implemented by the Whampoa Military Academy were implemented at all levels of the National Revolutionary Army organized by the Kuomintang and the Communist Party of China, becoming the main symbol that the revolutionary army was different from all old armies in the past. The Communist Party of China has provided active support and assistance to military schools. Zhou Enlai, Nie Rongzhen, Yun Daiying, Xiao Chunv, Ye Jianying and others have all held various responsible duties in the military academy. Many outstanding leaders and military cadres of our army, such as Xu Xiangqian, Luo Ruiqing, Liu Zhidan, Chen Geng, etc., also studied at Whampoa Military Academy. The famous Whampoa Military Academy at home and abroad was a revolutionary academy that revolutionary youth across the country yearned for at that time. Although the Whampoa Military Academy in the later period became a reactionary base camp for Chiang Kai-shek to cultivate private power, its early period was still progressive and revolutionary.
