On this day, 51 years ago, March 3, 1974 (February 10, 1974, the lunar calendar), agricultural educator and animal husbandry scientist Zhang Kewei passed away. Zhang Kewei (1901-1974), formerly known as Zhang Yuxiu, also known as Zhang Yuxiu, was an agricultural educator and animal husbandry scientist. On October 10, 1901, he was born in "Zhang Jinshi Mansion" in Changyi Village, Dongguan, Jilin. Zhang Kewei attended a private school at the age of 7 and later transferred to a public primary school. After graduating in 1917, he was admitted to Jilin Private Yuwen Middle School and transferred to Jilin Provincial First Normal School the following year. Zhang Kewei is diligent and studious and likes to read English. After school, he often goes to the Jilin YMCA to practice English. He makes friends with the secretary of the association and the American youth Magri. Graduated from Jilin City Two-level Normal School in 1919. The May 4th Movement broke out in the same year, and Zhang Kewei began to pay attention to the future and destiny of the country. He believes that the poverty and backwardness of China is due to underdeveloped agriculture, and the poverty of farmers is due to their lack of understanding of science. Therefore, he wanted to take the path of saving the country through agriculture. Graduated from the Graduate School of the University of Chicago in 1931. He has taught at Shaanxi Wugong Agricultural College and Northeastern University. Joined the China * Party in 1936. Later, he served as Senior Senator of the Eighth Route Army General Command, Minister of the Democratic Movement Production Department of the 129th Division, and Director of the Construction Department of Jilin Province. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, he served successively as Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Northeast People's Government, President and Secretary of the Party Committee of Shenyang Agricultural College, and President of Liaoning Province Academy of Agricultural Sciences. In the 1950s, he took charge of the study on the abnormal behavior of the Soviet White pig and determined that it was Japanese encephalitis, corrected the wrong conclusion of suspected brucellosis, and made the White pig be preserved and popularized in China, becoming a pig breed resource for cross breeding and heterosis utilization. Later, he presided over the breeding of improved varieties of "Shenhua Pig." On March 3, 1974, Zhang Kewei unfortunately passed away unjustly due to primary liver cancer. He was 73 years old.
