July 30, 1085 The Northern Song Dynasty abolished the new law
On this day, 940 years ago, July 30, 1085 (July 6, 1085 in the lunar calendar), the Northern Song Dynasty abolished the new law. In March of 1085 AD (the eighth year of Yuanfeng), Shenzong of Song Dynasty died, and Zhao Xu of Song Zhezong succeeded to the throne. At that time, he was less than 10 years old. The successor of Yingzong and Shenzong's mother Gao made the regent in the name of Empress Dowager Tai. She had always opposed the new law. After taking office, she immediately appointed Sima Guang, the leader of the conservative faction, as prime minister. Sima Guang completely denied the new law and proposed to abolish it. On July 30, 1085 (the sixth day of July, the eighth year of Song Yuanfeng), it was ordered to first abolish the Baojia Law, Fangtian Tax Equalization, Market Changes and other laws. Later, the Green Crop Law, the Exemption Law, and the General's Art of War were also abolished.
