Hammarskjöld was born on July 29, 1905. He studied law and economics at Uppsala and Stockholm universities. Later, he served as a Swedish civilian official. He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1947. In 1951, he served as deputy head of the Swedish delegation to attend the United Nations General Assembly. After serving as Secretary-General, he contributed to the resolution of international disputes.
