Liang Xi, formerly known as Xi, with the character Suowu; later changed his name to Xi, with the character Shuwu (or Shuwu), and the pen names Fan Seng, Yiding, Ah Wu, etc. Born on December 28, 1883 in a scholarly family in Shuanglin Town, Wuxing County, Zhejiang Province (now Nanxun District, Huzhou City). From 1913 to 1916, he studied forestry at the Faculty of Agriculture, Imperial University of Tokyo, Japan. In 1923, he went to the Higher Forestry School of Tarante in Germany (now the Department of Forestry of Dresden University) to study the chemistry of forest products manufacturing.
