Breaking-News >> TodayHistory Japanese party politics began on June 11, 1924
101 years ago today, on June 11, 1924 (May 10, 1924 in the lunar calendar), Japanese party politics began. On June 11, 1924, Japan's first Kato cabinet was established, and Japan entered an eight-year political party government, that is, the era of party politics. After World War I, the growing monopoly bourgeoisie demanded that political parties form a cabinet to replace the privileged vassal politics and suppress the progressive forces in the country. On June 11, 1924, bourgeois parties such as the Constitutional Assembly, which won the general election of the House of Representatives, formed a cabinet, and the president of the Constitutional Assembly, Takaaki Takato, served as the prime minister. From then until 1932, the second Kato Cabinet (1925-1926), the Jiro Wakuki Cabinet (Constitutionalist Association, 1926-1927), the Yoshiichi Tanaka Cabinet (Masamoji Association, 1927-1929), the Yukiyuki Hongguchi Cabinet (Gerakan, 1929-1931), the Wakuki Cabinet (Gerakan, 1931), and the Inuyoshi Cabinet (Masamoji Association, 1931-1932) were successively established based on the number of seats in the House of Representatives. The so-called "constitutional convention" of governing by the majority party in the House of Representatives was achieved. Party politics did not change the Japanese government's basic policy of domestic repression and foreign aggression, but it also had friction with the military. In May 1932, fascist soldiers launched a coup d'état and overthrew the Kennel Cabinet, marking the end of the era of party politics.
