Chiang Kai-shek's Birthday

Chiang Kai-shek during the 1911 Revolution

Chiang Kai-shek (1887-1975) was a native of Fenghua, Zhejiang Province. His name is Zhongzheng, his original name is Ruiyuan, his notation name is Zhou Tai, and his scientific name is Zhiqing.

No matter how you evaluate Chiang Kai-shek, you must admit that Chiang Kai-shek was a far-reaching figure in China's politics in the 20th century.

Chiang Kai-shek was born on October 31, 1887 in Xikou Town, Fengbei County, Zhejiang Province. He was frail and sickly since he was a child, but he was by nature active and naughty. He often swam in the creek and went out to climb mountains. He slowly got rid of his cowardice and became strong. Since his father died when he was 8 years old, he developed a tenacious character under his mother's strict discipline.

In 1901, Chiang Kai-shek married Mao Fumei, a girl three years older than him at the age of 14, and had one son, Chiang Ching-kuo.

In 1905, Chiang Kai-shek traveled eastward to Japan to study. In 1907, he entered the Zhenwu School in Japan. Later, he was introduced to Sun Yat-sen and began his military revolutionary career. He was hunted down by Yuan Shikai, but he mixed himself in a vulgar society and often escaped.

Chiang Kai-shek pursued many women throughout his life. For example, in 1912, he met Yao Yicheng, a maid under a famous prostitute, and became his mistress. In 1923, he met Chen Jieru and married her. In 1927, he got engaged to Song Meiling, and Chen Jieru went to the United States to "study" until her death in 1971. However, it was Song Meiling who had the greatest influence on Chiang Kai-shek, especially in rescuing Chiang Kai-shek during the Xi'an Incident, lobbying for assistance from the United States, and handling domestic affairs. Soong Meiling was very good.

Chiang Kai-shek had two sons: Chiang Ching-kuo, who went to study in the Soviet Union, and Chiang Wei-kuo, who went to study in Germany.

In his later years, Chiang Kai-shek became almost a hermit.

Chiang Kai-shek died of illness in Taiwan on April 15, 1975.

Chiang Kai-shek's greatest merits and demerits in his life were two: he was credited with keeping Taiwan from separating from the mainland and resolutely opposing "Taiwan independence"; because he had long opposed the Communist Party, he had created many tragedies, such as the "Zhongshan Ship Incident" aimed at crowding out and massacring Communist Party members, "sorting out party affairs", and the "April 12 coup", advocating "foreign countries must first be at home", passive anti-Japanese, and active anti-communist policies, and was eventually driven to Taiwan Island by the Communist Party for this life.
