Ukrainian President Zelensky announced in the early morning of September 1 that Ukrainian law enforcement agencies had detained a suspect in the murder of former Supreme Radar parliamentarian Andrey Paruby.
Zelensky told Telegram on social media that Ukrainian Interior Minister Igor Klemenko and the Director of the Ukrainian Security Agency Vasily Malyk had to him about the arrest.
At present, the investigation is ongoing and the suspect has provided preliminary testimony.
Mr. Parubiy, 54, was shot dead in the city of Lviv on August 30 after a gunman disguised as a delivery rider fired several shots at him and fled the scene. Mr. Parubiy was the speaker of Ukraine's parliament from 2016 to 2019 and was a key supporter of the 2014 Square Revolution.
After the incident, the Ukrainian police said the attack was "carefully planned" and investigated all possible motives, including whether Russia was involved in it, while the Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zakharova ironically commented on the case, suggesting that Ukraine could have planted a trap.
