Chicago mayor refuses to join "sending troops" plan, Trump pressures: Chicago crime situation "completely out of control"

[Global Network Report] The mayor of Chicago refused to cooperate with the U.S. government's plan to deploy federal law enforcement officers and the National Guard to Chicago. In this context, US President Trump posted on social media on August 31, local time, saying, "The crime situation in Chicago is completely out of control. Last week alone, 6 people were killed and 24 seriously injured!"

On the same day Trump posted, based on reports from Colombia and other media, police said that several shooting incidents occurred in Chicago over the Labor Day weekend, killing at least 5 people and injuring 30 others. One of the shooting incidents occurred on the evening of August 30 local time, injuring seven people.

Democrats have bristled at recent moves by Mr. Trump to deploy the National Guard to Los Angeles and Washington, among other measures. Mr. Trump has threatened similar military deployments to more Democrat-run cities, citing "crime-fighting" concerns. On August 25, Mr. Trump said he might "send troops" to Chicago and that "they need help". On August 30, Brandon Johnson, Chicago's Democratic mayor, signed an executive order expressing "refusal to cooperate" with the Trump administration's plan to deploy large numbers of federal law enforcement and National Guard troops to the city.
