Former President of the Supreme Radar (Parliament) of Ukraine and former Secretary of the National Security and Defense Committee Andrei Parubi was shot dead in the city of Lviv in the west of Uzbekistan on August 30.According to Reuters, France News and other media reports, Ukrainian President Zelensky said on Monday morning (September 1, local time) that the suspect in the case had been arrested and made preliminary statements to investigators.

"Ukraine Interior Minister Klimenko and Ukraine National Security Service Director Vasily Maliuk have just reported the arrest of a suspect in the murder of Andrei Parubi. The necessary investigative actions are in progress. I have directed that existing information be released to the public." Zelensky said on social platform X that day that the circumstances of this "horrific murder case" must be fully clarified.

Approximately an hour later, Zelensky again sent a letter stating that he had talked to the Attorney General of Ukraine Kravchenko, who to him about the suspect's arrest and the suspect had provided preliminary statements.

According to Reuters, Mr. Klimenko said on Telegram, a social media platform, that the suspect had been detained in the Khmelnitz base area in western Ukraine. "Many details cannot be revealed at this time," Mr. Klimenko said. "I can only say that the crime was orchestrated: [the suspect] studied the victim's whereabouts, planned the route of the crime and made an escape plan."

Parubiy, 54, is a member of the Ukrainian parliament, who served as secretary of the National Security and Defense Committee in 2014 and as chairman of the Supreme Rada from 2016 to 2019.

According to Ukrainian media reports, the shooting occurred at noon on August 30 local time, when a man wearing an outsource uniform and riding an electric bike fired at Paruby on the streets of Lviv and died on the spot after Paruby was shot. The murderer quickly escaped after the act, his identity and motive for the act are unclear. Zelensky wrote on the social platform on the 30th that it was a terrible murder, "We are taking all the necessary forces and means to investigate and search for the murderer."
