According to a report from Israel's Channel 12 on the evening of August 31, an internal document of the Israel Defense Forces showed that the Israeli military operation in the Gaza Strip code-named "Gideon's Chariot" failed to achieve its established goals and seriously deviated from Israel's own war principles.
Although Zamir, Chief of General Staff of the Israeli Army, had previously publicly declared that the relevant operations were successful, the document bluntly stated: "We failed."
"Israel committed every possible mistake in this war and violated its own principles of war," the document said, according to the report. According to the document, Israel's lack of time dimension and resource management in the war has left its troops exhausted and lost all international credibility.
The documents show that key Israeli operational targets failed to be achieved: Hamas was neither militarily destroyed nor politically disintegrated; Israeli detainees were neither released by agreement nor rescued in operation.
