Lebanon rejects support for U.S. plan to disarm Hezbollah

On August 31 local time, Lebanese President Berry delivered a speech.Refusing to support Hezbollah's US-proposed disarmament planIn his speech, Berry said Lebanon is willing to discuss the whereabouts of Hezbollah's weapons, but that such discussions must take place within the framework of "calm and unanimous" dialogue, not under the threat of foreign powers.

Berry said that the disarmament plan currently proposed by the United States has exceeded the requirements in the previous Lebanon-Israel ceasefire agreement. Even though Lebanon has fulfilled its obligations under the ceasefire agreement, the Israeli army continues to launch air strikes on southern Lebanon and refuses to withdraw its troops. Under such circumstances, Lebanon will not make any "unilateral compromise" that harms national interests. In addition, Berry also opposed allowing Lebanon government forces to participate in disarmament-related operations because he believed that government forces should not participate in domestic political disputes.

Lebanese Prime Minister Salam announced on August 5 local time that the Lebanese government has ordered the military to develop a plan to ensure that all weapons are taken under state control by the end of the year.
