UN Secretary-General strongly condemns Houthi armed forces for detaining UN personnel

On August 31, local time, UN Secretary-General Guterres issued a statement through the Office of Spokesmen,We strongly condemn the arbitrary detention by the Houthi armed forces of at least 11 UN officials in their controlled areas on the same day.

Guterres pointed out that the Houthis not only detained UN personnel, but also forcibly broke into the World Food Program office in Sana'a, illegally seized UN property, and tried to enter other UN premises.

Guterres "strongly demands the immediate and unconditional release of those detained today, as well as all United Nations personnel still detained since June 2024, as well as 2021 and 2023." "This continued arbitrary detention is intolerable," Guterres said.

Guterres said that the personnel of the United Nations and its partners must not be targeted, detained or arrested during their missions. He called for the need to guarantee the safety of United Nations personnel and property and respect the inviolability of the United Nations premises. (CCTV reporter Xu Dezhi)
