One special aircraft arrives in China, China welcomes a rare visitor, Sullivan: Trump helps China "big deal"

An Indian special plane arrived in China, and the Chinese side welcomed a rare passenger. Sullivan said Trump had done China a "big favor"!

According to Xinhua News Agency, on August 30th, Indian Prime Minister Modi arrived in Tianjin by special plane and will attend the SCO summit. This is Modi's first official visit to China after several years. After getting off the plane, Modi also made a new statement to China, saying that Sino-Indian relations should not be interfered by third parties and independent diplomacy should be maintained.

In the face of heads of state flying to China, former U.S. National Security Adviser Sullivan directly spoke in the U.S. media, criticizing Trump for imposing tariffs on India and more countries, saying that this behavior is pushing India and other allies to push China's side is helping China a "big favor."

Putting the above two incidents together, it is obvious that there is more than just an ordinary diplomatic interaction behind them.

Looking at India's diplomatic shift, this did not happen suddenly, but was pushed out step by step. During the Cold War, India has always taken the "non-alliance" route, there is plenty of swing between the USSR, relying on the advantage of the population and resources, and also in the Third World.

Later, the United States wanted to balance China in Asia, began to actively draw India. From Obama's "return to Asia-Pacific", to Trump's first term demonstration, US-India interaction is becoming more and more frequent. For example, the two sides have to do several joint military exercises a year, the United States also eased technology export restrictions to India, when many people felt that India would become an ally of the United States.

But the turning point lies in the tariff policy of Trump 2.0 era. In August this year, the United States directly raised the total tariff on Indian goods to 50%, which hit India's sore spot. India's textile and jewelry industries, 80% of their exports depend on the American market, and a 50% tariff is equivalent to directly cutting off the survival of these industries.

So the U.S. trade bullying, it can be said to make India see the reality, follow the United States, there is no "allied friendship" at all, only interests are calculated.

So India's attitude began to harden. Indian Foreign Minister Jaishankar Jaishankar publicly stated that the interests of farmers and small businesses would never be abandoned in trade negotiations; at the same time, he accelerated the negotiation of new trade agreements with ASEAN and the European Union to reduce dependence on the US market. More obviously, in military cooperation, India directly suspended the drone order that was originally going to be purchased from the United States, which loosened the "quadrilateral mechanism" between the United States, Japan, India and Australia a lot.

Looking at China's changing role, it is achieved through concrete actions.

After the reform and opening up, China's economy took off, and for decades, our country has become the world's second largest economy, and at the same time began to take more responsibilities on the international stage.

The most typical is the "One Belt and One Road" initiative, which was put forward in 2013 and has already involved more than 150 countries and more than 30 international organizations.Projects such as Sino Old Railways and Yavan High Speed Railways are not only as simple as building a few railways, but also help countries along the route to open trade channels and drive the local economy.

In terms of climate governance, China also does what it says. It promises to peak carbon emissions before 2030 and be carbon neutral before 2060. Then we will do what we say, not only do it, but also complete it ahead of schedule. At the same time, we are also helping developing countries build photovoltaic power stations and wind power projects. At the COP27 conference in Egypt last year, the "Green Development Partnership" proposed by China immediately received support from dozens of African countries.

In the field of international peacekeeping, China is now the country that sends the largest number of peacekeepers among the permanent members of the United Nations Security Council. In conflict areas such as Lebanon and South Sudan, Chinese peacekeepers have undertaken many missions such as road construction, hospital construction, and peacekeeping, contributing a lot to regional peace and stability.

To be honest, China has long been no longer the kind of country that "passively abided by the rules" in the past. Now we have become an important participant and contributor to international rules.

Combined with the above, we look back at Sullivan’s remarks, exposing the U.S. anxiety over the acceleration of its hegemony collapse.

Sullivan said Trump "helped China a lot", which appears to be blaming the predecessor, in fact, is admitting that the United States originally wanted to join allies to surround China, and now this plan is going to blow up.

Because Trump's tariff policy is not only aimed at India, but also imposed tariffs on Europe, Japan and South Korea, which makes America's allies begin to wonder: if they follow the United States, will they be the next to be "cut leeks"?

And China always adheres to mutual benefit and win-win, whether it is with India to talk about economic and trade cooperation, or help other countries to build, does not add political conditions.

The change of Sino-Indian relations and roles has undoubtedly had a positive impact on Asia and the whole world, and it has begun to show.

First of all, for Asia, the easing of Sino-Indian relations can directly stabilize the regional situation. Both China and India are big countries with a population of over 1.4 billion. As long as there is no conflict, peace in Asia will be basically guaranteed. Moreover, the cooperation between the two countries in the fields of anti-terrorism and drug control can help small neighboring countries solve practical problems and enhance Asia's right to speak in the world.

Secondly, for global trade, India breaks away from the "camp confrontation" of the United States and chooses to engage in diversified cooperation with countries such as China, which can break the destruction of the trading system caused by U.S. unilateralism. For example, India's recent rice export agreement with China not only solved India's slow-moving grain problem, but also stabilized global grain prices.

Finally, with regard to multilateralism, the coordinated cooperation between China and India on the United Nations and SCO platforms can resist the U.S. "small circle" strategy. For example, in the UN Security Council vote on Syria last month, China and India jointly voted against, blocking the U.S. proposal to unilaterally impose sanctions on Syria.

In addition, from the perspective of general trends, the improvement of China-India relations will not be a short-term phenomenon, but an inevitable result of the adjustment of the international order. It has become increasingly unrealistic for the United States to maintain hegemony by "forming cliques". Because allies are not fools, no one is willing to sacrifice themselves for the interests of the United States, let alone sacrificing themselves in exchange for any return. This is even more so.
