On Friday, a resident of Dubai from Kerala, India, was abducted by a woman and eight others in Kosekod as a result of an iPhone transaction.
Police said the kidnapping of 23-year-old Muhammed Rayees, who works in Dubai and is on a short leave in Kerala, was linked to a financial dispute.
Reese borrowed more than 6 million rubles from the woman and three other men, but refused to repay the money.
The three men then contacted the woman victim, claiming they had all been deceived by Reyes. After learning that Reyes had returned to Kerala, they hired four more accomplices to kidnap him.
The woman is understood to have met Reyes in the early hours of Friday morning. When Reyes arrived at her hotel in Kozhikode city around 1 a.m., he was forcibly grabbed by criminal gangs into a car.
The police received an alarm and quickly launched a search. A few hours later, Reis was rescued and nine criminals were detained. The authorities have filed charges against all the defendants.
Kidnapping caused by iPhone fraud
Police pointed out that the defendants claimed Reis had promised them that they would provide various iPhones from Dubai in exchange for money. However, they neither received the mobile phone nor the money back, so they plotted to kidnap him.
Investigators said that more details are expected to be disclosed as the investigation gets deeper.
