Fashir in western Sudan killed 78 people

On August 31, local time, the Sudanese non-governmental organization "Sudan Doctor Network" issued a statement stating that several residential districts of the city of Fashir, the capital of the northwestern state of Darfur, were shot by artillery on August 30.Seven civilians were killed and 71 injured.

The statement said Sudan's Rapid Support Forces launched the shelling, condemning the group's long-term siege and systematic bombing of Fashir, in blatant violation of international law and international humanitarian law.

The statement also urged the international community to take urgent action to stop the illegal crimes of the rapid-supporting forces, end their siege of Fashir, and open up humanitarian corridors.

Regarding the above statement, the Rapid Support Forces have not yet responded.

On April 15, 2023, armed clashes broke out between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces in the capital Khartoum, and the fighting subsequently spread to other areas. The armed conflict that lasted for more than two years has killed nearly 30,000 people and displaced more than 12 million people.

Darfur is one of the main battlefields of the conflict. Among the five states under the jurisdiction of the region, except North Darfur, the other four states have been controlled by the Rapid Support Forces. Since May 2024, the two sides of the conflict have been engaged in a continuous battle over control of El Fasher. (Headquarters reporter Zhao Yuanfang)
