The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Britain, France and Germany issued a joint statement on the Iran nuclear issue on the 28th that the three countries notified the UN Security Council on the same day to launch the "rapid resumption of sanctions" mechanism, if the Security Council fails to pass a resolution on extending the period of exemption from sanctions against Iran within 30 days, the relevant sanctions will be resumed.

Under the 2015 comprehensive agreement on Iran’s nuclear weapons, Iran pledged to limit its nuclear program and the international community lifted sanctions on Iran. This resolution contains a “rapid resumption of sanctions” mechanism that allows signatories to take measures against Iran’s violations, which is valid until 18 October this year.
The foreign ministers of Iran, Britain, France and Germany and the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy held a joint video conference on July 17. Britain, France and Germany expressed Iran's determination to launch the "rapid restoration of sanctions" mechanism and pressured Iran to resume nuclear negotiations with the United States as soon as possible. In May 2018, the United States announced its unilateral withdrawal from the Iran nuclear agreement and restarted and added a series of new sanctions against Iraq.
