France and Germany join forces to defend the European Union's digital sovereignty, Macron: do not allow other countries to make decisions for the European Union

On the afternoon of the 29th local time, French President Macron and German Chancellor Merz co-chaired the 25th Franco-German Ministerial Council in the southeastern French city of Toulon.

In retaliation for the U.S. government’s threat to take tariffs on other country’s digital regulatory initiatives, Macron said at the aftermath of the meeting:France and Germany are determined to jointly defend the European Union's legislative and digital sovereignty, not allow other countries to make decisions for the European Union, and will use existing anti-coercion mechanisms to respond if the European Union is threatened or imposed tariffs.
