At 5:50 am today (30th), UN Secretary-General Guterres arrived at Beijing Capital International Airport by plane. He will attend the 2025 Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit in Tianjin.

Secretary-General Guterres has visited China many times. Last year, he came to China as a special guest to attend the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation. In 2024, Guterres also attended the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Astana Summit.

China is one of the founding members of the United Nations and the first country to sign the Charter of the United Nations. On October 25, 1971, the 26th session of the United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution 2758 on the restoration of all lawful rights of the People's Republic of China in the United Nations, recognizing that the representatives of the government of the People's Republic of China are the only legitimate representatives of China in the United Nations.
