On August 29, local time, the Thai Constitutional Court ruled that Thailand's suspended Prime Minister Peton Tsingnava, in violation of the relevant provisions of the Constitution, resigned from the post of Prime Minister from the moment.

Peterson will hold a press conference later on the 29th.

Thailand's youngest prime minister

Petuntan was born in 1986, the youngest daughter of former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, and is currently the leader of the Thai Party.

On August 16, 2024, Petongthan was elected as the new Prime Minister of Thailand after receiving the support of more than half of the members in a vote at a special session of the lower house of the Thai Parliament. King Maha Vajiralongkorn of Thailand then approved her as Prime Minister of Thailand. She became the second female prime minister and the youngest prime minister in Thailand's history.

Recorded calls are controversial.

On June 18 this year, a recording of the conversation between Peetonthan and Huntsen was released from the Cambodian side. In the conversation, Peetonthan called Huntsen "Uncle", asked Huntsen to help solve the border issue between the two countries, and even criticized a Thai army front commander for escalating tensions.

Hun Sen said, "In order to prevent misunderstanding and misreading, and for the sake of transparency, the recording was made according to the habit" and shared it with about 80 people, including the Cambodian ruling party and senior officials of the Senate, National Assembly, foreign affairs, education, border affairs, military and other departments. Among them, "some people may not like the Thai Prime Minister, so the recording was released".

The recording soon reached Thailand. Petuntan apologized for the recording incident, saying the call was private and aimed at easing the situation at the border, and did not expect to be recorded.

Subsequently, 36 Thai senators requested the Constitutional Court to investigate whether Peitontan violated the Constitution and political moral standards. The Constitutional Court announced on July 1 that it would accept a petition to investigate whether Prime Minister Peitontan had violated the Constitution and suspend Peitontan from exercising his powers as prime minister. On July 3, Petontan was sworn in as Minister of Culture. On August 21, Petontan appeared in person for questioning and submitted his final arguments before the 25th day as required by the court.

How does it affect the political situation?

According to previous reports by Thai media, if Peitontan is officially dismissed, the Thai government will face reorganization or trigger an early election.

Analysts believe that the current series of lawsuits surrounding Petongtan and former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra are highly concerned at home and abroad in Thailand, which will directly affect Thailand's future political structure. If there is continuous political turmoil, it will inevitably affect Thailand's economic recovery and hit the confidence of foreign investors. (Headquarters reporter Yang Tanli)
