Two large planes failed one after another in three days. What happened?

Today (August 28), Flight CA965 suddenly returned over Russia, and someone posted on social media that the oxygen mask had dropped. This is usually a characteristic of the cabin's depression, but the drawing check found it wasn't depression. The aircraft returned to the capital airport after about 9 hours of departure, with another 777-300ER re-executing the flight.

B-2087 landing at Capital International Airport

On the day before (August 26) the Russian emergency landing was also a 777-300ER. That day the B-2033 was rescued by the B-2088; the mask was dropped by the B-2087, rescued by the B-2045. The Boeing 777-300ER was very large and was a real big aircraft. But within three days two large aircraft failed, what happened?

The Boeing 777- 300ER is currently the most popular large intercontinental passenger aircraft. It can hold up to 550 passengers and fly as far as 14000 kilometers. Among all wide-body passenger aircraft, the 777- 300ER is currently the largest in service. It has produced a total of 832 aircraft so far, and about 400 are flying around the earth at any time. To put it bluntly, it is supporting mankind's "intercontinental social civilization."

The Boeing 777-300ER is very expensive, costing $375 million per aircraft. Given that it is so expensive, mainland airlines can only afford it by the three major central enterprises. My country's Air China, China Southern Airlines and China Eastern Airlines have 28, 15 and 20 777-300ERs respectively, which is not a small number. If you count Cathay Pacific's 52 aircraft (including 777-300), China Airlines' 10 aircraft and Evergreen's 33 aircraft, you can rank ahead of the United Arab Emirates (120 aircraft) and become the number one in the world!

Ranked by independent companies, Air China has 28 777- 300ERs, which can also rank eighth in the world. But the question now is not to make rankings, but why did it fail twice in three days?

Neither of these two failures seems serious. The CA865 on August 26 was rumored to have an engine failure, but it should not require replacement. It should be noted that Air China's statement that "the plane has returned" means that the rescued B-2088 has returned, and the failed B-2033 aircraft is still stranded at Nizhny Vartovsk Airport.

Today's CA965 was lucky and flew back to base safely. Its oxygen mask falling off should be a "system erroneous trigger", which has happened before. However, after the mask is triggered, it needs to be returned, and it still needs to be returned.

If only one failure, it can be considered "accidental". Yesterday, Lavrov also said that the Boeing 777-300ER quality is good, occasionally failure is not a big thing. The aircraft quality is indeed good, selected by many countries as the head of the special aircraft. It has a large volume, a long range, and only two engines compared to oil-saving – of course it technology is somewhat outdated, will be replaced by the upgraded more oil-saving 777-9 next year.

However, if the problem occurred twice in a row, it would be inappropriate to describe it as "accidental". Some of Air China's 28 777- 300ERs are more than 10 years old. For example, the B-2033 is 13 years old, today's B-2087 is 14 years old, and so on. However, the Boeing 777 can fly for more than 30 years and is still in its prime for more than ten years. Moreover, most of China Eastern Airlines and China Southern Airlines are the same, and they have not caused any trouble.

What is the reason for the two consecutive failures of the same company and the same model? As a flying friend, I dare not speculate, maybe I can only say "Boeing again" - right?
