The U.S. Department of Health and Public Services, a senior department of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, said on July 27 that it had dismissed the office of the director of the center, Susan Monarez, but did not explain the reasons for the dismissal.
Later that day, Monarez's legal team issued a statement in response saying that she had neither resigned nor been dismissed. Shortly after this statement was issued, White House spokesman Kush Desai officially confirmed that Monarez would be dismissed because the policy direction advocated by Monarez was inconsistent with President Trump's agenda of "making America healthy again".
On the same day, several other senior officials of the CDC resigned. According to US media reports, the resignation of these officials is related to dissatisfaction with vaccine policy, false information and politicization of public health.
