Brazil's Treasury Minister Fernando Ade said on August 28 that Brazil may file a lawsuit in U.S. courts over the recent high tariffs imposed by the U.S. government on a number of Brazilian imported US goods.

In an interview with local media on the 27th, Ada said that Brazil will not conduct lobbying activities, but will safeguard national interests according to law. "If necessary, we will resolve the problem through legal channels."

Ada also said that countries have the right to use their own currencies for bilateral trade. If the United States continues to "weaponize" the US dollar, it will weaken the international influence of the US dollar.

At present, the United States imposes an ad valorem tariff of 40% on Brazilian products exported to the United States, and most Brazilian products exported to the United States face tariff rates as high as 50%.
