On August 27 local time, China's Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Geng Shuang, addressed the Security Council's open meeting on the Palestinian-Israeli issue, urging Israel to immediately stop its military operations in the Gaza Strip.
Geng Shuang said that the Gaza conflict has been delayed for nearly 700 days, and Gaza has long become a purgatory on earth, 2 million the people of Gaza are caught in a huge man-made disaster. The international community must make every effort to prevent the situation from deteriorating.
Geng Shuang emphasized that,Violence cannot bring security, and force cannot bring peaceIsrael continues to escalate its military offensive, causing a large number of innocent lives to be lost every day. Israel attacked the Nasser hospital on the 25th, resulting in the death of more than 20 civilians, causing another appalling tragedy. Israel is also advancing its military plan to take over Gaza City. Once implemented, it will definitely cause more killings and exile, and bring more danger and anxiety to the people of Gaza and the detainees. China opposes and condemns all acts that harm civilians, damage civilian facilities and violate international law, and urges Israel to immediately stop its military operations in Gaza and immediately stop taking dangerous actions that escalate tensions.
Geng Shuang said,Violations of international humanitarian law are unacceptable, weaponization of humanitarian supplies is unacceptable, and militarized supplies distribution mechanisms are unacceptableAll along, the biggest challenge in expanding humanitarian assistance in Gaza is not the shortage of humanitarian supplies, nor the ineffectiveness of humanitarian agencies such as the United Nations, but the artificial obstacles set up by Israelis. China calls on Israel to open all border crossings, fully resume humanitarian access, and support the United Nations in providing assistance in a manner consistent with humanitarian principles, so as to effectively alleviate the humanitarian disaster in Gaza.
He noted that the recent Israeli approval of the plan to build settlements in the West Bank "E1 Zone" would seriously impact the Palestinian territorial cohesion and damage the foundations of the Palestinian state.The international community should reinvigorate the political outlook for a "two-state solution" with the utmost urgency, firmly opposes the forced relocation of the Palestinian people and the dangerous attempt to annex the West Bank and Gaza.
Geng Shuang said that the Middle East is not peaceful and the world is not safe. At present, the situation in the Middle East is complex and fragile, and hot spots are intertwined, and the Palestinian issue has always been the core of the Middle East issue. China supports the Security Council in taking all necessary actions to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza and ease the humanitarian disaster. China calls on all countries, especially those with important influence over the parties concerned, to uphold a just and responsible position and play a constructive role. China will continue to work with the international community to quell the war in Gaza, implement the "two-state solution", and finally achieve a comprehensive, just and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue.
